Once upon a time there was a little girl who was absolutely fascinated with all the things that could be done with thread…
Everyone’s familiar with the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, right? Or at least they’ve heard enough to know that Theseus found his way to the center of the labyrinth using a ball of enchanted string. That bit’s kind of essential to the entire story, honestly, because if Ariadne had never given him that ball of string, Theseus might still be wandering around that labyrinth to this day. Daedalus knew what he was doing after all.
While there’s a lot to unpack in the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, the part that always resonated with me the most was the ball of string. The idea that a seemingly innocuous item could lead someone to where they were supposed to go, providing a clue if you will, struck me as completely life-changing. So, impressionable 6-year old me developed an avid interest in string…and thread…and yarn.
Which brings us to today. I’m still utterly fascinated by fiber and I love exploring what can be done with the stuff in whatever form it happens to be in. Grab your knitting needles and hang onto your clue of thread; it’s going to be a wild and colorful ride!
